Tips for caring your shirts

Premium cotton shirts require more care as the fabrics used are more delicate. Here are some tips :

a) Wash your brand new custom dress shirt before wearing to remove any toxic chemicals and to make the material softer.

b) Mechanical and hand twist drying should preferably be shunned as such drying method will destabilize the fine cotton fibres. Drip drying is encouraged to maintain the structure of the fine fabric.

c) Routinely check your custom shirt to see if the buttons are secure, or if there are any loose threads to avoid embarrassing moments of a missing button.

d) Machine wash your shirts using a gentle cycle with lukewarm water to preserve the fabric and color.

e) Do not dry-clean your shirts as the chemicals in dry cleaning fluid will destroy the fabric.

f) Starching while pressing will weaken the cotton fibers. To keep a crisp, look only for premium cotton shirts made from high thread count.

g) Spray your deodorant or cologne on your body and wait for it to dry before wearing the shirt to avoid staining.

h) To prevent permanent staining, promptly wash your custom dress shirt before the stain sets in and is absorbed in the fabric.

i) To avoid lifting the color out of your shirts or "color run", separate your shirts before laundering into three categories: whites, colors and darks.

j) To get your white shirts whiter, use bleach. For colors, use special bleach for colors. As for your dark colored shirts, avoid bleaching all together.

k) Check for stains and clean before pressing. Heat from an iron will permanently set the stain into the fabric.

l) It is best to iron your shirts while the fabric is damp so you do not scorch or damage the fabric. It will also make it easier to get all the wrinkles out.

m) Alternatively, invest in a very good steam iron.
